Most nationalities can get a Nepal tourist visa on arrival at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport — fill out the form (or pre-register online to save time), pay in cash (USD is easiest), and you're through in well under an hour outside peak arrival banks.
For trekking specifically, you'll need two additional documents beyond your visa: a TIMS card (Trekkers' Information Management System) and a region-specific permit — ACAP for Annapurna, Sagarmatha National Park entry for Everest, and a restricted-area permit for places like Upper Mustang or Manaslu.
